Foetal development. Western and traditional Chinese medicine views of foetal development (including channel theory, five phase development and the establishment of the shen, hun and po).

Supportive care in early pregnancy. Enhancing the uterine environment in early pregnancy; working with women following IVF embryo transfer; treating women with a history of recurrent miscarriage and those presenting with bleeding, including retroplacental or subchorionic haematoma; examination of Western medical and acupuncture research following embryo replacement and the practical application of this research to clinical practice.

Lifestyle advice. Bull's hearts, Barley and Birthing huts- the relevance of traditional Chinese medicine lifestyle advice to women for their pregnancy and birth.

Induction protocols. Examining western medical research protocols and acupuncture approaches for inducing effective labour, according to differential diagnosis and western medical constraints.

Midwifery acupuncture. For 12 years midwives in New Zealand have been using acupuncture and acupressure in their practices after completing a short training course. Their support has led to acknowledgment from the Midwifery Council and the College of Midwives and has provided Debra with the opportunity to offer a hospital clinic with free pregnancy and postpartum care. Case histories will be presented from this clinic and from midwifery practice, with a focus on the treatments found to be the most effective.

Problem solving. Acupuncture treatment for problematic presentations such as: gestational diabetes, twin pregnancies, polyhydramnios and premature labour. There will be an emphasis on treating challenging clinical presentations - early enrollers will have the opportunity to send Debra suggestions for clinical problems they would like to see discussed in this part of the seminar
