MAMPS Foundation Certificate in Clinical Practice and Research Literacy.

This is a year certificate programme with nine modules within a year.

Develop your clinical practice. Clinical case histories will be used to stimulate discussion about approaches to treatment relating to maternity acupuncture. As well as providing a reflective approach to your current treatment approaches, you have the opportunity to share in your colleagues treatment approaches, our treatment approaches (including that of the guest mentors), receive fact sets specifically prepared for MAMPS students and receive individualised online feedback from us (recorded for those unable to attend).

•            The aim is to provide a learning platform that will mentor the growth and development of future practitioners in this speciality area of practice

Achieve competencies and continuing education points: Using online lectures and quizzes that you can complete in your own time, we will take you step by step through a programme to achieve competencies in red flags, medical terminology and research literacy relating to maternity acupuncture. The aims are to:

•            Ensure practitioners understand the relevant safety and ethical considerations for practicing in this speciality area of practice.

•            Ensure practitioners communicate effectively with their western medical colleagues using appropriate maternity terminology.

There will also be the option for students to complete activities for continuing education points throughout the course however, this is not compulsorily.

Participate in a Journal club to understand the latest research. Just as western medical practitioners use journal clubs to build their understanding of reading and presenting research, we will meet online to discuss a research article and its application to clinical practice every three months. In the months leading up to the journal club you will have access to lectures and specifically developed worksheets, and work with your colleagues in small groups to submit your ideas and understanding prior to the meeting.

•            The aim is to ensure practitioners understand how to communicate and advertise professionally with the public and their western medical colleagues about the use of research in this speciality area of practice.

Receive ongoing support. Access to an online forum provides you with the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about clinical practice in a supportive environment and receive feedback form us and your colleagues.

•            The aim is to build a platform that provides you with information that you can trust, as well as providing opportunities for group sharing of difficult situations, positive experiences and new ideas for treatment in this speciality area of practice.

Be involved in collection of data from clinical practice. There will also be the opportunity for MAMPS practitioners to access data bases for those interested in collecting clinical practice outcomes.

What our students have been saying about this course

" As a practitioner with about 9 years' experience in almost exclusively treating women's health issues, I have learned how to confidently treat complicated perinatal issues which previously would have left me hesitant and unsure. It's not just my clinical skills which have improved- my skills in educating my patients as well as communicating with other healthcare providers regarding how I can help have grown. Participating in MAMPS has surpassed my expectations in every way! The mentors are incredibly generous with their time and knowledge and it's wonderful to connect with a network of acupuncturists treating a similar patient population"

“I have found it useful to come to my own responses on a topic or case and then see what others are saying about it. I've learned a lot this way, more than I would have if I was just taught straight out. I've also learned a lot from others in the course.”

“Most useful! I mostly have enjoyed learning about how to critically read research, as well as the resource section materials. The forum to ask questions is great as well. “

“The information that Debra has shared is amazing and thorough. I appreciate her research and thoughtfulness. The online format has taken me a bit to adjust to- but I think I have now. I appreciate getting to share and discuss with other providers and acupuncturists about this work- it really enhances the way I teach interns and talk about it myself.’’
